Mardi Gras : the way of New Orleans! I mean, who doesn’t love a good Mardi Gras party?! For the September 2016 meeting for the Snohomish Wedding Guild, our amazing team of vendors + venue decided to throw a Princess and the Frog themed meeting. For those of you unfamiliar with Guild meetings, each meeting, held every other month, has a group of volunteer vendors at a volunteered venue that decorate as if it is a wedding, and the group chooses their theme.
To be honest, when I first heard the theme, I was skeptical. I mean, we were putting on a wedding based on a Disney cartoon movie, Princess and the Frog! However, after meeting with the vendors in person, and learning more about the movie (as I had never seen it), and its ties to New Orleans and Mardi Gras, I began to get excited! I mean, this could turn out awesome! And boy, did it!
Starting off with the venue, it is absolutely gorgeous! It is like being in a huge, gorgeous cottage (but obviously 200+ person wedding size) on a beautiful lake! Green Gates at Flowing Lake is gorgeous. You would never know it is tucked back into the location it is. Even after you park, you begin to wonder, before walking through the tall shrub border, where are we? But then, as you step through, your jaw drops! This big, beautiful, raw wood venue building(s) stand before you, surrounded by beautiful landscaping and lush green lawns, overlooking a quiet corner of Flowing Lake, complete with lily pads. It really is spectacular! The seating or reception area is gorgeous and filled with natural light.
We had an amazing team of vendors that put this show on! Kelsey of Eternal Knot Weddings was behind the theme and coordination, as well as majority of the planning. Janet of Country Blossoms Floral did all of the beautiful, whimsical arrangements that look straight from a pond fairytale!
Jeff & Amanda of Jeff & Amanda Films were all over the venue from set-up to take down, capturing the details and the crowd, and the venue as a whole! Jeff & Amanda are one of my f a v o r i t e photographer/film couples – they have an amazing eye and a gorgeous editing style, and are the kindest hearted people you’ll meet!
Clearview Spirits and Wines provided the beverages for the evening, while Bert, Barry and their team from Collector’s Choice in Snohomish provided a beautiful, bountiful, absolutely delectable full-course dinner, that included sliced rib roast, the most amazing wrapped fish, and some delicious sides!
PJ of PJ Parsons Presents did an amazing job keeping the night flowing and full of sound, as the amazing DJ she is!
The venue was completely decorated with rich purple, bright green, metallic gold, Mardi Gras beads, and gold sequins. Whimsical, fairytale-inspired pond-like floral creations were the centerpieces of not only the tables, but the entire venue! Umbrellas (inspired by the Princess and the Frog) were placed throughout, as were little frogs (princes!).
I had a lot of fun creating the spread for this meeting! I chose some of my most popular flavors for my fellow vendors to try: raw honey + wild lavender, spiced pumpkin + sea salted caramel, milk chocolate stout, and dark cacao + blackberry. Edible flowers and edible flower petals (provided by Field to Heart, a local organic flower farm in Snohomish) adorn the cupcakes. Milk chocolate stout from SnoTown Brewery was used in one of the cupcakes, and is always a favorite! I used “love in a puff” vine from Field to Heart and assorted floral from Janet’s leftovers for the meeting to garnish my cake masterpiece. Kaylee of Champagne & Chalk made the little flavor labels for my desserts.
